Repatriation of the Elgin Marbles Debate: Against Side
December 2024
Final Project for Intro to Classical Archaeology
Role: Project Manager fighting against the Repatriation of the marbles. Teams were given a side at random.

The Parthenon friezes' marbles, also known as the Elgin Marbles, have been the subject of debate for years. This debate has only escalated since the Acropolis Museum in Athens built an exhibition for the marbles that lie empty. During the debate, the Pro side lined out multiple reasons the British Museum should return the marbles. The Con side followed with a rebuttal, where we argued the marbles were not obtained illegally, the British Museum is a global museum, and is more accessible than the Acropolis Museum. The debate raised questions such as who has the right to own artifacts, and are museums covering global content ethical?
I was the project manager. Starting off the project, I made a timeline outlining a schedule along with details of each step, including which members are in charge of what steps and what they should submit each week to the group. During the project, I demonstrated my ability to plan a rebuttal and successfully prepare my team. After the debate, the teacher took a vote, and my team was able to sway the highest number of people, winning us the debate.
